• Enhancing generation of cytotoxic CD8+ T cells via dendritic cells

    Cytotoxic T cells (CD8+ T cells, killer T cells; CTL) are one of the frontline immune cells in cancer immunity. CTL inject cytotoxic granules called granzyme B into cancer cells and destroy them. In this study, Authors investigated whether BioBran affects poliferation of CTL via dendritic cells (DCs).

    DCs obtained from peripheral blood mononuclear cells of a volunteer were stimulated with BioBran and then cultured with CTL. After incubation, the amount of granzyme B in CTL and their cytolytic activity against tumor cells were measured. Also type I and type III interferon (IFN) levels produced by the DCs were assessed.

    As a result, BioBran was found to activate CTL via DC stimulation (Fig. 1). It was also shown that BioBran significantly increased the production of IFNα and β and IL-29 (IFN-λ), which play important roles in viral and bacterial infections (Fig. 2).
